Have you ever been in blind night darkness before? I have. It was on an island in the Pacific Ocean. There were no lights at all other than a few visible stars. I could barely see my hand when I held it in front of my face! I think this is the type of “darkness” Jesus was talking about.
My note: This is completely in line with the theme of spiritual perception and with the fact that the consequences of hearing the the word of God, and keeping it …is good and sound spiritual perception!
My note: That “sign of Jonas” was Jesus foretelling that he would be “in the belly of the beast” (so to speak) for 3 days which was from the time of his death to the time of his resurrection. Perhaps some of the people who were present to hear him say that remembered what he had said after he was crucified, died, buried and 3 days after his death, rose from the dead. If they had heard and remembered, perhaps they would have then realized that, that was the sign Jesus said he would give them to prove he was whom he said he was.
Now check out this next verse. Jesus is still talking about spiritual blindness to the spiritually blind religious leaders…Guess who Jesus is talking about in the next verse?
VERY IMPORTANT:My note: Jesus is referring to himself! Jesus is that “man”! Jesus had been telling the people that if their perception (heart) is evil, that they are in the dark and therefore were not able see the light when it is standing before them. As Jesus said, a greater one than Jonas and a greater one than Solomon was standing before them. He was the bright shinning light and the religious leaders were too stone cold blind to perceive that the person (Jesus) standing before them was not only of God, but the promised Messiah! Can you imagine being so blind that your sight is as pitch black as pitch black can get in spite of you standing in front of “The Light of the World”? (John 8:12)
Jesus Christ taught GRACE.
Hebrews 1: 1-2 (KJV) God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;
“Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.” (1 Corinthians 2: 12-13)
God has always provided His way to communicate with His people which has been distinctly different than those nations who embraced and employed the occult methods…
Make no mistake…The “spirit of this world” is imparted the very same way today as it was 6,000 years ago. It has never ceased to be an abomination. An abomination is something so evil and filthy that partaking of it or associating with it transfers the evil to you. The practice of opening the “3rd eye” aka “eye of Horus” is the way the “spirit of this world” is imparted and has been imparted over the last 6,000 years or more.
Do the works Jesus did?... and even greater works than those he did?
How is this possible? (Read the next verse):
My note: This verse shows that the world did not yet have the “Spirit of truth”. So, I ask you again to consider what “spirit” had been entering through “the 3rd eye process”.
How is it that the disciples would know those things "at that day"....
Jesus did come to them as he promised. And…At that day, just as he promised, they received the “Spirit of Truth”.
Jesus didn’t tell them “to open the 3rd eye”.
He didn't touch the middle of their forehead to “open the 3rd eye”.
He didn’t tell them to pursue seeking the 3rd eye.
Jesus didn’t even touch them. He literally breathed on them!
God’s way is different! God's way has always been different!
Let’s ask ourselves. Why is it that of all the other scrolls dug up with the book of Thomas, not one of them has ever been dated early as the critic claims for Thomas? Evidently, this cannot be done, or else some critic would have tried it.
The few pieces of papyri that quote this Thomas book cannot with certainty be dated earlier than around the start of the fourth century. These come from some fragments found at Oxyrinchus in Egypt. Again, while some would like to speculate about Thomas being from the first century, there exists no particle of proof. That claim is pure fiction.
The truth is, there are no quotations from the book of Thomas in any early authors or datable fragments. This makes Thomas a relatively late text compared to the four New Testament Gospels.
From all available evidence, nobody took Thomas seriously. Even the Nag Hammadi Library bound it together with the pagan Republic of Plato, but not with any New Testament books.
In the light of the above facts, Thomas’ non-mention of Jesus’ Godhead or resurrection is worthless, from an historical point of view.
And, sadly for the critic, the claim of an ‘early’ date for a ‘Gnostic-style’ human-only Jesus stands or falls with that Gospel of Thomas.
Gnosticism was a reaction to the Christian message. And it was cemented by its own writings.
